Description of Work
Pierced silver and copper with vitreous enamels as jewellery and large scale work which include sculptural freestanding pieces and wall panels.

Artist Statement
I enjoy the merging of east and west in the pieces I produce. Much of my inspiration comes from India. Through the study of Indian myth and design I have found that the intricacy of their art, textiles and architecture form a background for my creations. The use of colour and the love of positive and negative space, the vibrancy and immediacy I think of as the east is reflected in my work.
Another theme that interests me is society's obsession with the perfect body image. "The emaciated supermodel" series is stylized and very contemporary, providing a playful commentary on the way women see themselves today.

Background
Savannah studied for 4 years at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was here that she discovered enamelling-the application of fusing glass to metal-and began her study under Fay Rooke. Inspired by the play of colour, light and shadow there was an immediate recognition that enamelling was the perfect vehicle for her creative expression. During this period Savannah was fortunate to be able to take part in a large scale enamel workshop at Kent University, Ohio, USA. This workshop was a pivotal point in her study as it was here that she first experienced enamelling on a large scale, and she found the new possibilities this opened up very exciting. While in Canada Savannah was a member of the Canadian Enamellist Society, The Ontario Crafts Council and Visual Arts Ontario.
In 2002 Savannah moved back to the UK and settled in St. Ives in 2003. From her workshop in the town she continues her exploration of stretching the boundaries of enamelling as art. Creating with enamel on copper and silver as ornament she creates larger scale wall panels and freestanding sculptural work.
