Exhibition/Art
ˇ Some recent work can be seen on the Saatchi Your gallery/STUART website
and I was awarded in the magazines critics choice top ten for the week
of Dec 4-Dec 10, 2006.
ˇ April 2007- Exhibition, 'The Modern Body' in the Northam Road Gallery,
Southampton.
ˇ March 2007-Work featured in the INDEPENDENT in relation to ICA's 'All
Tomorrows Pictures' competition.
ˇ January and April 2007-Displayed video pieces in Nuwave: Sketchbook
show held in Apartment 26 in Southampton.
ˇ 2006-Currently some photography work can be seen City Art House Gallery
in Prestige Villas, a newly opened art gallery in Southampton.
ˇ 2003-2006- I have produced some preliminary illustrations for several
books for children's book author, Yvonne Atkinson, who is in the process
of trying to get published.
ˇ 2005-Large scale sculpture at Oxfords Plant Power Festival.
ˇ 2005-I was commissioned to produce four paintings for Sanremo Café in
Ascot and from there given space to exhibit other work on site. Record
Company Soul Entertainment requested me to help create designs for the
promotion and website of new recording artist Sandhya.
ˇ 2003- I participated in 'Sculpture Sound' which consisted of composing
music with which to perform with fellow musicians on metal objects that
an artist had constructed.
Employment
ˇ September 2007- 6 month internship at Elle magazine.
ˇ August 2007-Work experience at Glamour magazine within the fashion department.
ˇ July 2007-Completed work experience at Eve magazine within the fashion
department which included calling in clothes for shoots as well as helping
to create themes by picking appropriate items from look books.
ˇ 2001-2006- Dress Agency (Ancora) and Children's Clothes Shop (Bambini),working
alone in the shops gave me a great amount of responsibility, cashing up
and making the shop secure. I enjoyed being able to arrange window displays
and over the years build good relationships with the regular customers.
ˇ 2000-2001- I worked as a party instructor at Elmbridge Leisure Centre.
It included supervising up to 20 children with party games, bouncy castle
or disco. I had to liaise with parent's to gather requirements to deliver
a successful, safe and fun party. This also a job with high responsibility
and helped to enhance my communication skills and create good relationships
with customers. Working with kids requires you to be creative, keeping
them entertained is not an easy task, and they are honest critics.
ˇ 2005- I volunteered a few days at the Aspace Gallery in the Bargate,
Southampton. Although I couldn't continue due to other commitments it
gave a great insight into the running of a space and how a show is put
on.
Skills
ˇ Full clean driving licence.
ˇ Music has always been a great passion. Throughout school I was part
of orchestras and groups either playing flute or singing and went on tour
in Belgium within which we were able to perform to large crowds.
ˇ Currently I am learning to DJ and play Bass guitar, hopefully I will
be able to combine it with my art work in the future.
ˇ For much of my artwork I use the medium of digital photography and take
photos as often as possible.
ˇ Making video work for my degree show meant I had to get to grips with
using a new technology (the camera itself) and use an editing programme
which had previously been completely alien to me. Using a new medium and
having an adequate understanding of Final Cut Pro has influenced me to
endeavour to try new things and extend my knowledge in other mediums further.
ˇ Organising the Northam Road exhibition was useful in enhancing my communication
and marketing skills. Independently having to arrange advertising, promotion,
sourcing equipment as well as an opening night event meant I have become
more confident and proactive.
Other interests
ˇ Current fashion and fashions of the past are something that excites
me, reading magazines and trawling charity shops, eBay and vintage shops
to find treasures.
ˇ To help keep in touch with the fashion world I enjoy attending events
such as the Grazia Fashion Weekend.
ˇ I find great pleasure in regularly going to concerts and go to Reading
Festival every year.
ˇ I also have a great interest in films and enjoy regular cinema visits,
but I am also fascinated with the making of films and the processes that
go into making them.
ˇ Throughout school I worked backstage for the plays. This as well as
reading magazines and watching DVDs on the subject give me an insight
into the ins and outs of the very complicated process.
ˇ Organising events such as my sixth form Summer Ball and currently putting
on a group art exhibition which consists of finding sponsorship, advertising,
promotion and general arranging.
ˇ Regular gallery visits, as well as being enjoyable, I feel are integral
to my work. Being aware of current and past work can aid your thinking
and idea developments. (Seeing what and how other artists tackle certain
issues leads you to question and challenge how you work yourself.).
